Lang Furniture is introducing an employee benefits program that helps parents send their children back to school with new clothing, shoes and backpacks. Called the “Best First Day!” the goal of the program is that each child associated with the Lang Furniture family can go to school feeling confident and excited to succeed in the coming school year.

Says Julie Lang, Creative and Marketing Director, “Our Marshfield community is great about making sure that local children have the school supplies they need to be successful in the classroom, but there is really no program that we are aware of to help with clothing. By creating this program, we wanted to let our employees know just how much we appreciate their hard work and dedication to Lang Furniture. We know how difficult it is to raise a family today, and we hope by offering a little ‘financial cushion’ for families with school age children, we can make their lives a little easier.”

The cost of sending children back to school keeps rising

Every year, the cost of sending children back to school has been increasing. To put things into perspective, The National Retail Federation has been conducting an annual Back-to-School and Back-to-College survey since 2003 to see how American families will shop for clothing, supplies and other items for the next school year. The latest survey found that spending for 2019 will top previous records. 

According to the survey, families with children in elementary school through high school plan to spend an average $696.70 in 2019. That’s up from $684.79 last year.

Clothing and accessories will top K-12 families’ expenses at an average $239.82, followed by electronics such as computers, calculators and phones ($203.44); shoes ($135.96) and supplies such as notebooks, pencils, backpacks and lunch boxes ($117.49).
